REPORT
Accounting for the Funds Received from the Rescuing
Global Neighbors Program for Refugee Relief in Russia
The Citizen Assistance Organization received $1,700
U.S. (43,453 Russian Rubles) transferred to our bank
account on June 20, 2001. The funds received have
been used to relieve financial strain on refugees
arriving to Moscow from various regions, primarily
from Chechnya. The received sum has been used to
assist the following persons:
- Mrs. Raisa Salgirieva, 39-years of age, a refugee
from Chechnya. She arrived to Moscow from Ingushetia
to receive medical treatment. Raisa suffered severe
burns (over 65% of her body) when her parent's house
caught fire during an exchange of gunfire on December
31, 1999 in her native village Chechen Aul. Raisa is a
mother of two, and her 7-yr old son also received
severe burns. Her husband, a TB patient, undergoes
treatment in a hospital in Saratov.
It is hard to look at Raisa's ugly, thick, oozing
scaring which restricts her movement. She is in dire
need of plastic surgery not to keep her beautiful, but
to keep her alive. Waiting for her surgery, she and
her sister Zarema Akhmadova, stayed with a student
friend in her rented room. While there they had to
sleep on the floor. We provided Raisa and Zarema with
financial aid in the amount of 200 rubles to be spent
on bedding. Unfortunately, Raisa's treatment has been
postponed and she was forced to leave St. Petersburg.

Mrs. Toita Magomadova, from Chechnya, arrived to
Moscow with her daughter Diana and her son Islam.
Islam, born in 1985 needed medical attention as a
result of a serious wound he received during a missile
raid of Grozny in September 1999. Toita asked for
financial aid to get food and crutches (a so called
Canadian cane) for her son. The financial aid in the
amount of 1700 Russian rubles was given to Toita. The
aid was given in two parts, to reduce income tax
burden, one to Toita and the other to her daughter
Diana.

rubles to purchase compression clothing and a silicone
cream for the treatment of burns received by her son
Rashid. Nura, her husband and their six children live

played by a bon fire and one of the boys poured

Mrs. Aimat Muzaeva, 49 years of age, from New
Atagi, a village in the Shalin region of Chechnya,
received financial aid from our organization on a
regular basis. The aid was to provide medical
treatment to her son Salambek Muzaev, 26 years of age.
While at home, Salambek went to fetch some hay and
stepped on a mine. As a result of his wounds, he lost
the use of both hands (one was amputated to his elbow,
the other up to his wrist) and of both eyes (in the
one eye that he still has he retained only 10% of the
vision). While in Moscow, he was receiving treatment
from an Eye Institute named after Helmhotz. The
Muzaevs received financial aid in the amount of 1600
Russian rubles to pay for eye prosthesis. (To get a
free eye prosthesis for them through the channels of
the Ministry of Labor proved to be impossible.)

A thank you letter from Mrs. Luisa Amhadovna
Sultanova dated September 9, 2001
To the Rescuing Global Neighbors Organization
My name is Luisa Amhadovna Sultanova. A refugee from
Chechnya, I applied to the Citizen assistance program
for financial aid. On September 9, I received from
them aid in the amount of 1,300 Russian Rubles.
Grozny, my children and I were at home when our house
collapsed. All three of my children were wounded, two
of them seriously. Thanks to the help of Red Cross we
were moved to Moscow to receive medical treatment.
Later we were transferred to a specialized hospital in
St. Petersburg where we have remained for the last two
years. The only organization that has really helped
us was the Citizen Assistance. Since
they receive funds from you, I would like to thank
your organization as well for your support and
assistance to the needy. There is folk Chechen saying
"Find a good neighbor first and then buy your house".
We had to go through hell and survive to find out what
wonderful neighbors we have. Please accept my
heart-felt words of deep gratitude,
Sincerely,
Luisa Amhadovna Sultanova
